Rough Cut Reveiw

After watching our rough cut it is clear we still have a lot to still do. However overall we are happy with the footage we have got. What we still need to do is...

Sound Track
Finish editing the film and put the rest of the shots in place
Add further background sound
Shorten shots, so can fit sequence into the right amount of time
Put Titles in

some things not in story board

When looking at our storyboard you can see that some of the pictures in our story board we do not have in our thriller. We have not changed so much so our storyboard still has the basic outline of our thriller but our actual film has a lot more detail to it.

second shooting of our thriller out in linton (Will)

On the 20th October evening as a group we went back to our filming destination with our actors and filming cast and did more filming really to make our thriller amazing. We had some disadvantages though, our Actress could only do Monday's and annoyingly the weather on that night was a bit rainy and wet and the night we filmed before the weather was dry. So when adding things together we realise somethings looked a bit silly but we have made it work and we have made the film based on a wet night and only use the dry scenes when needed. We have added some new different shots to our film which are really going to make it a thriller. All of these different shits build up tension to make it seem like a thriller.

We have already filmed our opening sequence but we need to add some extra shots in we missed out.

Costumes

As there are only 3 characters in our thriller opening sequence there are not that many costumes needed, only one for each character. Also for two of the characters the costumes are very basic so there is not much detail.

Character 1, Emily Day, (ordinary girl who gets taken) = Brown Ugg boots, black leg ins, grey top with grey cardigan, white/cream scarf and 4 big bangles on the right arm.

Character 2, Henry Wade, (first Stalker) = Black 'Fred perry' plimsolls, black 'topman' jeans and black 'bench' zipped jacket.

Character 3, William Wade, (second Stalker) = Grey 'topman' plimsolls, black trousers and Black Zipped Jacket with several pockets.

We made sure the stalkers were not too obvious, so no hoods, just to be casual but scary and dark casual. Also the ordinary girl has been made a normal girl who goes out on a friday night with her friends having a good time.

Location

The crucial aspect of our film, is that we wanted to make what happens to be very  recognizable to our own lives and what we do. Basically, the girl walking home alone at night, isn't that far fetch a situation.  And many of us have probably been in a similar situation. Therefore making our sequence more frightening to view.  Our location, we chose to film, therefore, is quite important to our film. Our idea wouldn't work if the character was walking home alone  in a spooky forrest, a situation people wouldn't normally find themselves in.
We needed our sequence to take place some where that was recognizable to people in the was its like where thy live. Not necessarily the middle of a city, but a place that has some night life (a pub) and people generally about, most of the time.

Thriller analysis for panic room

i really enjoyed the opening sequence for panic room, it had a lot of tension in it and the soundtrack especially showed a lot of suspense. The angles the names of the actors, actresses directors and producers were really good as they blended in very well with the big sky scraper buildings. As soon as the first actress was shown you could tell she was under lot of dramatic tension as she was in big rush to do something. The colour of the film was very orange as it was Autumn so all the leaves were falling off the trees and it showed a bit of stress, mood and it was very quick action. The use of Camera angles worked very well, from small to long shots and useing the camera to make dimentions go from small - big with the titles on the skyscrapers.

FIlming our thriller away froms chool (WIll)

On October 13th group u1 34 went out of school and filmed our thriller. Whilst we were filming we were changing some things slightly but not dramaticaly. When watching it back after filming our shots we believe we had made a couple of mistakes and need to do it again. Some of the things we did wernt working as well as we hoped them to be ETC. We know that we have to change some things but unfortunaetly we were not aloud to use another camera over night so luckily a member of our group has got a video camera we can us. We will carry on our filming hopfully on monday night, and this time we will make sure we do eveything correctly!

feedback on story board (group work)

Letting individuals look at our storyboard we got some great feedback to make our thriller even better and more exciting. We didn't change too much but just made the idea of when the girl is being chased we really need to astablish the killer is following her, so as a group we have come up with some new ideas to really show the killer is following her!

Storyboard of our film

Me thoughts on 'Item 13' (Gareth)

There were many aspects of 'Item 13' that I thought were impressive. I felt that the opening sequence had a tense and almost disterbing atmosphere to it. Futher more I thought it was intesting that they did this with out having an character or short plot involved. Going into more detail, the way this creepy atmosphere came together, using the lighting, the editing and the soundtrack was really good. I felt the lighting was good how at times, only a glimps of a picture would be filmed as part of it was shadowed. This was well mixed with the sound, that contributed to the haunting mood the sequence had. Also I like some of the effects used, particularly the water shots, that were also edited so they at times blended with other shots, continuing to add to the mood of the sequence.
Over all the main reason I like this opening sequence besides the finer details of it, such as lighting, is because it had a clear a unique style to it. I gave a strong atmosphere that would have set up the rest of the film well.

Our Basic Idea

The opening sequence to our film is quite basic, opening with a girl walking home from the pub alone. We chose the girl to be walking back from the pub, because we wanted to create a sense or realism, having something scary happening in a situation that is formiliar to most of us. She is then followed by a person and then taken. We take into consideration that the basis of our idea isn't very imaginative, as it may have sounded. However by using differents shots and shot techniques, we're hoping to create something that with come across as looking proffesional, creative and have a unique style. Also because it is set at night, with out going into loads of detail that the lighting is going to be important in our sequence, to create a mood and atmosphere and also so it is possible to see what is going on.

Henry, will and gareth (Will's blog on student thriller)

i am going to analyse a student video from long road, the video is called 'This train terminates'. I like the very first open shot of the stairs and the audience straight away no its something to do with a train which gets you connected from the beginning. THe music then kicks in. Whilst watching the film and listening to the music i believe they work very well together, the music builds up tension as it always increases its tempo throughout whihc makes u think something will happen. All the different camera angles used in this film are great. WHilst the man is making the bomb the do a various amount of camera shots whihc really create the scene. i like how it kept going back from the making of the bomb to the man walking around the staton with it. through out it kept flicking up with the train destinations with black background and grey lines and the final shot was the train exploding. i htought this was an cleve extra detail. I thought thatoverall thought this was a good thriller start i give itg a 50/60.

Henry, will and gareth (Will's blog on thriller)

The film i am looking at is 'Face off'. The film face off starts different than you would have thought, as straight away its happy faces on a merry go round. At this point the music is quite slow and joyful. This is to show that the son and the dad (John travolta) are having a good time on the merry go round. But as soon as the camera goes onto the mystery man in the distance (Nicholas Cage) the joyfull, happy music hits a stop and slow, quite and dull music kicks in as you see the mystery man with a gun! THe lightness of this scene appears to be quite dull iwth color as the oclor is not so quite black and white but a very light shde of colors. When the gun shot has been fired the bullet goes in slow motion and takes a few seconds to make contanct. This builds tension and mkaes the impact of the shot quite dramatic. The colors which are quite clear are the colors on the ballons. The balloons i believe are synbolic to the child who has been killed going off to heaven. All the different camera shots used within the clip are a mix between long shots and close ups. There are not many camera shots used as it is quite simple but very effective opening. Overall i thought this was an awsome start to a movie i rate it a wopping 57/60

Blog on student thriller

Before i even watched the student thriller 'Dead runner...' i could immediantly discover that it was going to be a a quick pace, not soo dark but jumpy in places. As soon as i watched it i could tell it was going to be a jumpy and scary film, at times the opening was dark with black and white scenes and the fire. However i did not like the fact it kept going back to the clashing chain on the floor, i did not really understand what was going on with that. I thought the writing where it said "a chase to find the missing man 'Dead runner'" went too fast they should have left for just a few second longer giveing the audience a chance to gather there thoughts and think about what is going to come next and make them be on the edge of there seats. I did not really get what was happening first off some one was running away outdoors then they were indoors, there was water and then fire, i was confused and did not understand the opening sequence. Some of the shots were too quick but they did use most of there shots on the tripod unless they didnt need to which on some occasions they needed to. I did like the very beginning where they put together the 'trigger mountain productions with the gun and mountain, that was a very good touch.
